This Is Our Generation Calling book

'This is Our Generation Calling' by Tony Beesley

The concluding volume in a trilogy of books that chronicle the whole Punk era and beyond, taking in the Mod revival, 2- Tone, the Post-Punk years, New Romantics, Goth, Indie, Rave, Britpop and the present day punk-inspired bands such as Arctic Monkeys, the Violet May, Twisted Wheel, Spiders and more.
Told via the author's experiences and the words of 100's of contributors, including musicians (famous and not so famous), fanzine writers, gig promoters and the ordinary fans. the books bring back to life in a unique way a whole generation's journey from young teenage Punks and Mods to middle age and the questioning of our ideals. also, towards the end, allowing a new generation of music fans to bring their voices to the table.
The story is in turns captivating, exciting and life defining, often touching with displays of anger and disappointment and always full of passion and humour. The rebellion of our generation's youth is complimented with 100's of exclusive, mostly never before seen, photos and rare posters and flyers. There are backstage photos of The Clash, the Stranglers and rare shots of The Jam, Paul Weller, Specials, Secret Affair, the Adverts, Generation X and many more.

Focusing on the region of Sheffield and the surrounding northern towns and suburbs, the trilogy proves once and for all that the last thirty five years have not 'all' been a London dominated scene. The Human League, Artery, the Prams, Sheffield's premier Mod band The Negatives, the author's own Mod band The Way (whose later line up at one point also included Weller protégé Tracie Young in its ranks), 2.3, Pulp, Clock DVA and many more home-grown bands are covered as well as many of the quickly formed and often quickly broken bands.. Fanzines, venues and record shops. the violence of the times, the moods of optimism and elation at belonging to a scene. every angle is covered.

Positively acclaimed by Record Collector magazine and MOJO, Big Cheese as well as websites such as the God save the Sex Pistols site.
